As a light skinned African American I use to always feel that the darker child had something against me for no reason at all. As I would get older I would find myself in a defense mode against my darker brothers and sisters. Back then I could never understand the level of dislike or animosity that was coming from them, all I knew was I just had to watch how I approached them because anything that I would say would throw them into a defense mode ready for war. I had plenty of fights with my dark skinned brother behind the complexion of my skin in which I felt stupid afterwards because I knew what the battle was all about. My question is, Do you think our culture is being or has been manipulated into making us think negative about each other knowing that this will keep our minds off the real problem which is figuring out how to work together maintain a good living for our families like other cultures do instead of doing something that may lead our providers in a situation that will cause her/him to get incarcerated therefore digging the holes even deeper for our families we are trying to provide for?
